David Poyner won the Christie Award at the BBS national outdoor archery championships at Lilleshall for the most improved score from the previous year, with an improvement of 131 points.
Six other archers also improved their scores. Reward badges based on improvement of score each year were awarded to Harry Docherty and Clive Jones (400), Lewis March and Patrick Sidnell (550), Peter Hammond (650), Joan Toman (800), Dorothy Cooper and Steve Moseley (1200).
We had three new categories this year, ladies’ B2/3 and open compound and men’s Open Compound. We have received offers to sponsor trophies for two of these events, one from Marjorie Scott and another from the March family, and we are extremely grateful for these.
If anyone would like to donate a trophy for the third category, please contact Roger Rees-Evans or any member of the archery committee.

Last year we included a Blackout Round to encourage archers to take part in this discipline. This year a second trophy was donated for this round for archers who preferred not to shoot with blackouts.
It was based on improvement of handicap from the previous day’s allocated handicap for shooting on the 80cm target face. The winner, with a score of 177 for 36 arrows was Melissa Carter and the handicap-based Blinkie Trophy went to David Poyner’ who improved by four.
New national records were set in their respective categories for the VIIR 1 FITA: by Tilly Trotter with 166, Melissa Carter 785 (B3), Dorothy Cooper 1241 and Steve Moseley 1243. Peter Hammond set a new record for B1 Compound with 654.
We welcomed two new faces, Trina Brown and Tilly Trotter. On Saturday evening we held a quiz night made up of randomly-selected teams of two spotters and two VIs, giving everyone a chance to get to know each other better.
I would like to thank our two judges, John Goad and Andrew Tizard-Varcoe, results man Graham Rees-Evans, Lynn Wilson, Zoe Rees-Evans and Mavis Goad who between them did all the running about, Colin Dickinson for his help with the work party and everyone else who helped out.

The Worshipful Company of Bowyers kindly supported The BBS Archery National Outdoor Championships, attended by the Master Bowyer, Richard Model KCMCO. The Archery Committee would like to thank the Bowyers and hope that Richard and Ann had an enjoyable time meeting everyone. We would also like to thank Tom Williamson, President of GNAS who acted as Lord Patron for the day and handed out all the medals and trophies. The committee must also thank Robin Hall for all his hard work in preparation for the event and his continuing support.
10 BBS Archers were invited to attend the Fletchers’ sponsored day for disabled archers at the Royal Toxophilite ground, Burnham, Bucks on Sunday, 20th May.
The round for the V.I. archers was the Burntwood Albion round, consisting of a total of 9 dozen arrows shot at 30 metres. 3 dozen arrows on a 60cm face, 3 dozen on a 80cm face and the final 3 dozen shot on the
122cm face. The weather this year was very kind as compared to the atrocious conditions we had to put up with in 2006.
Steve Prowse took the Gentlemen’s trophy and Melissa Bubb the Ladies’ trophy. Congratulations to both of them and to all the other archers and spotters who made the day such an enjoyable one.
We would also like to thank the organising members from the Royal Tox for the organisation and the food, and to the Fletchers for their continued sponsorship.

Nineteen archers attended this year’s event, two short of the original list due to illness but it was another good turn out. Once again we had three new archers on the scene, Trina Brown, Leslie Culf and Peter Hazelhurst all from Sheffield Blind Archers.
The tournament was again heavily sponsored by The Worshipful Company of Fletchers who were represented on the day by Mr.Desmond Clarke (Master of the Fletchers) and Mr.Christopher Brown (Chairman of the Charity Committee). The archery section would like to thank them for their continuing support. We would also like to thank ‘Clickers’ who kindly supplied us with the target faces. As with our outdoor championships last year it was decided to include a ‘Blackout’ Round on the second day to encourage archers to take part in the discipline. The outdoor trophy for this shoot was donated by John and Margaret Schofield but as reported in the last issue of Target John unfortunately has since passed away, in John’s memory Margaret and his son David presented a further trophy for the indoor blackout round.
The Championship Round shot on Saturday was a Double Portsmouth consisting of 10 dozen arrows at 20 yards, in two sessions, the Sunday Round was an indoor FITA which was 5 dozen arrows at 25 metres.

Robin Hall (Tournament Organiser)
Lilleshall National Sports Centre 09th & 10th September 2006
This was a complete change from last year’s event weather wise, for a change it was hot and sunny, although a little windy at times. We had three new archers join us in April for the Indoor Champs, Judith Wilson, Patrick Sidnell and Lewis March (Junior B1) and all were present for this weekend.
Rounds shot - VIIR 1 FITA (Saturday) and a Burntwood Frostbite (Sunday)
It was decided last year to include a ‘Blackout’ Round on the second day to encourage archers to take part in this discipline. Archers selected to represent Great Britain at IPC International Tournaments are required to wear blackouts and selection is taken from such Rounds. This was not a selection Round but has been introduced so as to give archers an opportunity to try it out. The winner with a score of 171 for 3 dozen arrows was Roger Rees-Evans who was presented with a nice new trophy donated by Margaret and John Schofield, a gesture very much appreciated.
Roger set a new National Record on the Saturday (B1 Compound), but it was a very close thing. Roger’s score was 586 with 108 hits and 4 gold’s, Peter Hammond scored 585 with exactly the same amount of hits and gold’s and their score sheets had to be checked to ensure no mistakes were made. Both shot extremely well.
