The hard work that Jon Ward, his wife and family put in to organising the Kent have a go day all paid off on the day. With over 20 new and potential athletes, 3 or 4 guide runners and a good number of new coaches the day was highly successful in promoting visually impaired athletics to people in Kent . Even the weather was great, with a whole day of fun for all who attended. There is now talk of keeping contact with all of those who turned up to the day in order to develop a London and the South East Squad. Well done to all who turned up and a mighty thanks to those who set the day up.
Due to lack of funding athletes wishing to go to Colorado for the Championships had to fund themselves. Only two of the athletes good enough for selection could afford the trip, although Athletics committee did fund the kit.
Performances were high with both Matthew Cliff and Libby Clegg returning with personal best performances, a notable achievement for Matthew who in March was starting the recovery from double pneumonia and emphysema.
The competition was incredibly stiff but Matthew achieved a fantastic silver medal place in both the 100m and 400m; just missing gold in the 100m by 0.03 of a second! Libby finished a whisper outside the medals, so great performances, particularly as and both were running against people 2 and sometimes 3 years older than them.
