As the first organisation in the UK to produce guide running tethers, British Blind Sport hope the sale of this product will help more visually impaired people to enjoy running and physical activity as part of their Find a Guide project in partnership with England Athletics.

Find a Guide is an online database supporting visually impaired people to find licensed guide runners local to them simply by entering their postcode. To learn more about the Find a Guide project please visit the website www.findaguide.co.uk
National Partnerships Manager, Logan Gray, explained, “In partnership with England Athletics, our Find a Guide service has been very successful in matching visually impaired runners with sighted guides over the last few years and this has given a number of VI people the opportunity to get out and enjoy running. British Blind Sport works to remove barriers and support visually impaired people to take part in sport and physical activity and simply having a guide runner isn’t always enough for a VI person to run safely. By using a tether - a short hooped piece of fabric or rope –both runners are connected at the hand to negotiate the course. British Blind Sport have developed tethers as the leading VI sport organisation, we want to be at the forefront of this innovation and make them easily available to those that need them.”
Helen Newberry, Inclusion Manager for England Athletics said: “We’re really pleased to work with British Blind Sport on the Find a Guide database to help more visually impaired people get active. Whether they are new to running, want to get back into running or already run the database can help them connect with licenced guide runners to support them. Tethers can help both guide runners and visually impaired runners to run freely and enjoy the sport”
