Exercise Support and Promotion Oppurtunity

Would you like to receive a 30 week exercise program where you will be provided with information and strategies to help you start exercising as well as supporting the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences of the University of Birmingham?

Research members of the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences of the University of Birmingham are exploring the promotion of exercise among visually impaired people, in particular those who are currently not doing any exercise but who would like to become active. They are looking for participants to take part in the study and through the research, hope to identify strategies that can successfully help promote exercise among disabled people and in turn improve their physical and even mental health.

As part of this study, every participant will be entitled to:

  • A 30 week exercise program where we will provide information and strategies to help them start exercising.
  • We will also ask the participant to fill out questionnaires in week 1, 12 and 30, which will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
  • A face-to-face interview of approximately 30 minutes (at your preferred location) where we will discuss your experiences of the exercise program and how it can be improved.

The time commitment for each member is minimal considering the amount of benefit they may eventually receive and we thus hope that you will be able to put us in touch with your members if you think they may be interested in being part of this meaningful study.

As compensation, every participant will be eligible for travel expenses as well as £30 in cash upon completion of the 30 week program.

This research is funded by the English Federation of Disability Sport and led by Professor Brett Smith, in collaboration with Dr Eva Jaarsma. In order to help us make a difference in the lives of your members, we first need your support in helping us recruit participants for this study.

We hope you would be willing to help us with recruiting participants for this project and allow us to get in touch with your members.
