Regency Run Attracts Thousands in 11th Annual 10K Race

On April 19th, over 2000 runners lined up to complete the scenic Regency 10k, an annual local race organized by the Leamington Round Table that courses through the streets and parks of Leamington Spa. The race, sponsored by Wright Hassall, named British Blind Sport as their official charity partner of the 2015 race.

2015 is also British Blind Sport’s 40th anniversary year of helping blind and partially sighted people get active. Sport and recreational activities can enhance the lives of people with visual impairments by improving their health and increasing their social interaction and confidence. Sponsorship money raised by the 20-strong BBS Regency 10k team will be used to break down barriers and help more visually impaired people participate in sport.A young girl holds a British Blind Sport balloon. The lively run began with a demonstration from the Warwick Devils, the University of Warwick’s talented cheerleading squad. Wearing British Blind Sport vests, the squad performed several stunts and cheered the runners on as the race began. The festive ambiance resonated throughout the race in the smiling spectators and spirited racers.

Second-year Sponsorship and Fundraising Coordinator for the Warwick Devils, Izzy Croomer, was excited to participate in the event and to show her support for British Blind Sport. “We’ve worked with British Blind Sport this year and we’ve really enjoyed wearing your vests and coming to show our support today. It’s nice to work with a local charity. We chose BBS because they are based in Leamington and I wanted the team to see where our support goes to and how it makes a difference locally and nationally. I’m really glad to be able to work with BBS this year and we hope to again in the future.”
