RNC Academy new hosts for 2015 National Visually Impaired Youth 5-a-side Football Tournament

During its 40th year of events and celebrations, British Blind Sport is pleased to work in partnership with the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford to host the 2015 National Visually Impaired (VI) Youth 5-a-side Football tournament. The competition is taking place on Saturday 9th May at the fully accessible facilities at the college.

The state-of-the-art sports center is also home to the England Blind Football team and future host of the IBSA Blind Football European Championships in August. The Outreach and Events Officer at RNC Academy, Tim Broome, said, “We are really pleased to be working with British Blind Sport for this event. It will be great to see young aspiring VI footballers come to our facility. We hope that this will become a regular partnership with this event.”

Team entries for the tournament and further event information will be placed on the British Blind Sport website very soon. Luke Howard from Arsenal FC has entered a team in previous years and commented about the BBS event, “The tournament has been a fantastic opportunity for our groups. It is the highlight of the year for many of them and a talking point for months to follow. We have always found the atmosphere on the day fantastic and the sportsmanship displayed has always come before any competitiveness.”

Hosted by British Blind Sport, this event is the only specific VI Youth football competition in the UK, attracting a number of blind or partially sighted young people from across the country.

British Blind Sport’s Participation Delivery Officer, Ross Hayward, said, “Our partnership with RNC Academy is going from strength to strength and we are very pleased to work in partnership to put on this event. The facilities provide a great setting for VI teams and individuals to entre in the tournament and gain a great experience.”
