Report

As in previous years the event was shot at the National Indoor Shooting Centre Aldersley. The entry was another record with a gross entry of 36 (net 33), competitors in the supported event, four juniors and nine competitors in the free standing event. The supported event was split into three classes according to average.

With eleven clubs represented this year it was good to see entries from our two newest clubs, Keelby and Holwell.

The course of fire in both events was the standard 60 shots plus sighters in 1 hr 45 Min. The standard remains high with many of the competitors who had been before posting improved scores.

In class "A" Carol Brown (Hereford/Okehampton) regained her form starting with a 99 followed by five l00's to post 599 Ex 600 (equal British record). Ali Burt (Bon Accord) just beat Michael Whapples (Nottingham University) by one point to take 2nd place with 593.

In class "B" Jo Stinton (CABS, Helston) had a superb shoot scoring 589. Mike Curtis (Chippenham) took 2nd place with 580 and Amanda Burt (Bon Accord) took 3rd  beating Morag Morrison (Bon Accord) on count back, each scoring 578.

In class "C" Steve Cook (St.Austell) shot well to take 1st place with a score of 567. Mike Finnigan (Holwell) at his first major event smashed his entered average to score 562 and take 2nd place. Also at his first event was Ron Shepherd (Keelby) who took 3rd place from Rod Button (CABS, Helston) again on count back each scoring 546.

The Junior event nearly didn't happen, due to a clash with revision for exams. Fortunately, with all the juniors coming from New College Worcester, it was possible to allow a delay without compromising the shoulder to shoulder aspect of the event.  It turned out to be another close run affair with Anna Sharkey taking1st with 589, Robin Williams 2nd with 587 and Damien Hutching 3rd with 556.

Once again in the free standing competition Ali Burt (Bon Accord) and Ed Kent (St.Austell) battled it out, with Ali beating Ed by just one point to take 1st place with a score of 563 against Ed's 562. Ed's score was all the more remarkable since he had recently had a heart pacemaker fitted. Geoff Wherry (St.Austell) was 3rd with 536.

We were pleased to welcome Councillor Phil Bateman, Mayor of Wolverhampton, to present the trophies.
